2010 SESSION
WHEREAS, the Bruton High School football team should never be underestimated; and
WHEREAS, after being picked to finish at the bottom of the Bay Rivers District, the Bruton High School football team won the Bay Rivers District championship game with a come-from-behind rally in the second half; and
WHEREAS, the Panthers defeated Tabb High School (31 - 28) at Bailey Field on November 14, 2009, to win their first district championship since 1986 and their first since joining the Bay Rivers District; and
WHEREAS, the Bruton High School football team continued its winning streak by defeating Poquoson High School (20 - 17) in another rousing come-from-behind game to win the Region I championship in the Group AA Division 3 final; and
WHEREAS, the regional championship win earned Bruton High School its first state football playoff berth in its history; and
WHEREAS, the Bruton High School football team did not disappoint fans in the state semifinals; and
WHEREAS, an 18-yard field goal with only 48.6 seconds left lifted the Panthers to victory over Handley High School (10 - 7) to advance to the state championship game for the first time in the school’s history; and
WHEREAS, the triumphant performance of the Panthers is a tribute to the talent, dedication, and perseverance of the players; the leadership of Head Coach Tracy Harrod and his hard-working staff; and the tremendous support of the parents, students, and faculty of Bruton High School; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Panthers from Bruton High School on their outstanding 2009 season; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Tracy Harrod as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the championship performance of the 2009 Bruton High School football team.
