WHEREAS, Robert Carson Wininger of Yuma, a respected citizen and outstanding community leader for 50 years, died on June 8, 2009; and

WHEREAS, a lifelong resident of Scott County, Robert Carson Wininger was the son of Robert and Clara Fields Wininger, graduated from Cleveland High School in Yuma in 1938, and served his country in the United States Army; and

WHEREAS, Robert Wininger bravely fought in the Battle of the Bulge and received five Battle Stars for his valiant service in World War II; and

WHEREAS, after his retirement from the Tennessee Eastman Company in 1977 with 35 years of loyal service, Robert Wininger enjoyed working at the Eastman Employee Recreation Center until April 2009; and

WHEREAS, dedicated to improving the quality of life of his fellow citizens, Robert Wininger was an influential and knowledgeable member of the Board of Supervisors for Scott County for over 10 years and served on numerous boards, including the State Water Control Board, Moccasin Gap Sanitation Board, Ohio River Valley Sanitation Commission, and Virginia Farm Bureau Board; and

WHEREAS, Robert Wininger was appointed to the National Silver Haired Congress representing the 9th Congressional District of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, an active volunteer in his community, Robert Wininger was a loyal member of the Gate City American Legion Post # 265, the Catlett Masonic Lodge # 35 AF & AM of Gate City, the Gate City Chapter # 116 of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Jericho Shriners, the Yuma Ruritan Club, and the Yuma Senior Citizens Group; and

WHEREAS, Robert Wininger was a faithful member of Cowans Branch Missionary Baptist Church and was active in the church's many missions in the community; and

WHEREAS, Robert Wininger will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his daughter Valda Reed and her husband, Benny Reed; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sisters and many loving family members; and his numerous friends and admirers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of a fine community leader and outstanding Virginian, Robert Carson Wininger; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Robert Carson Wininger as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
