2010 SESSION
WHEREAS, the 2008 - 2009 King’s Fork High School boys’ basketball team is commended for winning the Group AAA state basketball championship; and
WHEREAS, King’s Fork High School opened its doors in 2004 and in just five years became the first Suffolk school to win a Group AAA title; and
WHEREAS, in an exciting game, the King’s Fork High School boys’ basketball team rallied from a 19-point second-half deficit to defeat William Fleming High School (49 - 47); and
WHEREAS, the Bulldogs scored just nine points in the first half but regrouped for the second half by going to a smaller lineup and increasing their defensive game; and
WHEREAS, the Bulldogs didn’t give up and worked diligently to trim William Fleming’s lead to eight by the end of the third quarter; and
WHEREAS, in the fourth quarter, the lead passed from team to team until Derek Wright shot a game-winning three pointer with 41.6 seconds left on the clock; and
WHEREAS, the Bulldogs showed great tenacity and determination not only in the state championship game but throughout their successful season; and
WHEREAS, the individual players and coaching staff have worked hard to build an award-winning team and demonstrated great commitment to the school and to one another throughout the school’s short history; and
WHEREAS, the triumphant performance of the Bulldogs is a tribute to the talent, dedication, and perseverance of the players; the leadership of Head Coach Josh Worrell and his hardworking staff; and the support of the parents, students, and faculty of King’s Fork High School; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend the 2008 - 2009 King’s Fork High School boys’ basketball team on winning the Group AAA state basketball title; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Josh Worrell as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the championship performance of the 2008 - 2009 King’s Fork High School boys’ basketball team.
