2010 SESSION
10101199DWHEREAS, Mountain View High School, an outstanding alternative high school of the Fairfax County Public Schools, is recognized in 2010 for its many accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, Mountain View High School provides students with a challenging learning environment that is safe, secure, and accepting and the faculty works hard to encourage creativity, critical thinking, leadership, and individual growth; and
WHEREAS, in 2009 Mountain View High School was ranked nine out of 318 high schools in Virginia that met all the Standards of Learning (SOL) scores of 100 percent; and
WHEREAS, the Mountain View High School staff and students are very proud of their continual improvement, high graduation rates, and student portfolios, as well as exceptional mentoring, parenting, and other innovative programs that are a shining example for other high schools in the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Mountain View High School was one of eight schools nationwide that was awarded a $10,000 grant from AOL to enhance programs such as the school’s Electronic Portfolio Project that showcases students’ work on the web as they prepare for graduation and full-time employment; and
WHEREAS, dedicated school principal, Jim Oliver, accepted a resolution from the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors on December 7, 2009, recognizing Mountain View High School’s notable achievements; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Mountain View High School and its students, staff, and enthusiastic supporters on their hard work and impressive accomplishments; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to representatives of Mountain View High School as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude to the school for its commitment to excellence in education and best wishes for continued success.
