Commending the Collegiate School boys' tennis team.

WHEREAS, the Collegiate School boys’ tennis team won the Virginia Prep League season-ending tournament and capped off their season by winning the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association (VISAA) state championship at the Collegiate School on May 16, 2009; and

WHEREAS, the Collegiate School Cougars won their first ever Prep League title and state title in school history; and

WHEREAS, in the state tournament, the Collegiate boys’ tennis team defeated Hampton Roads Academy, Cape Henry Collegiate, and in the finals, Potomac High School 6 - 0, and won 16 out of 18 individual matches to claim their first title; and

WHEREAS, the Cougars competed in 16 matches, winning 15, losing only one team match by a single tie-breaker; and

WHEREAS, sophomore Max Schnur earned All-Prep Honors at #1 singles and doubles, along with All-Prep senior Colin Elliott at #2 singles and #1 doubles, eighth grader Brady Straus at #3 singles, senior Dylan Moon at #4 singles, and eighth grader Michael Perel at #6 singles; and Schnur and Elliott went undefeated (10 - 0) at #1 doubles during the season; and

WHEREAS, Max Schnur and co-captain Colin Elliott were also named to the All-State Team and Max Schnur was named VISAA Player of the Year; and

WHEREAS, other members of the 2009 Collegiate boys’ tennis team were senior and co-captain Tyler Agee; juniors Pat Blank, Alex Doherty, and Rob Spratley; sophomore Andrew Elliott; and freshmen Cole Phillips and Turner Willett; and

WHEREAS, the championship performance of the 2009 Cougars is a tribute to the talent, commitment, and team effort of the players; the leadership of Head Coach Chris Conquest and assistant coach Wes Atiyeh; the support of the parents, students, faculty, and co-athletic directors Charlie McFall and Karen Doxey, and associate athletic directors Will O’Brien and Andrew Stanley; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Collegiate School boys’ tennis team on winning the 2009 Prep League and VISAA Championships; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Chris Conquest as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the outstanding performance of the 2009 Collegiate School boys’ tennis team.
