§ 22.1-290.02. Commonwealth Teachers Program established; Board of Education to administer Program; eligibility requirements.

A. The Board of Education shall establish the Commonwealth Teachers Program, hereafter referred to as "the Program," for the purpose of attracting highly qualified teachers to underperforming schools in the Commonwealth. B. Each teacher accepted into the Program and assigned to a school that has not achieved full accreditation status shall receive an additional six months of creditable service in the Virginia Retirement System for every year of service in the Program.

C. Nothing in this section shall be construed to prevent any teacher currently teaching in a school that has not achieved full accreditation status from applying for acceptance into the Program.

§ 51.1-141. Service equivalents.

The Board shall determine how much service in any month is the equivalent of a month of service or how much service in any year is the equivalent of a year of service.
