VIRGINIA ACTS OF ASSEMBLY -- CHAPTER An Act to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a section numbered 53.1-116.1:02, relating to jailer issued identification for prisoners. [H 1161] Approved

 

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 53.1-116.1:02 as follows:

§ 53.1-116.1:02. Jailer issued identification.

Prior to the release or discharge of any prisoner, if the prisoner does not already possess such identification, the sheriff, jail superintendent, or other jail administrator may issue that prisoner a special identification card to be given to the prisoner upon his release. The sheriff, jail superintendent, or other jail administrator may establish a procedure for securing such identification through the Department of Motor Vehicles. All costs and fees associated with obtaining a special identification card shall be paid by the prisoner.
