S.B. 284 Child Protection Accountability System; VSP and circuit courts required to report information.

Virginia Child Protection Accountability System. Adds the Department of State Police and circuit courts to the list of entities required to report information for inclusion in the Virginia Child Protection Accountability System.
S.B. 415 Foster care; local department and child-placing agencies to provide independent living services.
Patron: Vogel
Foster care and independent living services. Requires local departments and child-placing agencies to provide independent living services to any person between 18 and 21 years of age who requests such services and is in the process of transitioning from foster care to self-sufficiency. The bill also extends the time period during which a person between the ages of 18 and 21 may request restoration of independent living services if they previously terminated such services. Local departments are required to provide a person who chooses to leave foster care or terminate independent living services written notice of their right to restore independent living services.
S.B. 528 Prisoners; licensed professional counselors to direct sex offender treatment programs.

Prisons; Treatment and control of prisoners. Allows licensed professional counselors or licensed clinical social workers to direct sex offender treatment programs in the Virginia Department of Corrections.
S.B. 567 Adoptee access; grants adult adoptees by-right access to original birth certificate.

Adult adoptee access to original birth certificate. Grants adult adoptees 18 years of age or older by-right access to their original birth certificate.
S.B. 637 Jail superintendent and officers; service of civil and criminal process of jailed inmates.

Authority of jail superintendent and jail officers to serve process. Provides that the superintendent and jail officers at regional jail facilities are invested with the powers and authority of a sheriff or sheriff's deputy for the purpose of service of civil and criminal process upon inmates within the jail or jail farm, provided the officers who do so have received the same training with regard to service of civil and criminal process as is given sheriffs and sheriff's deputies with like responsibility.
S.B. 702 Child welfare; placement of children.

Child welfare; placement of children. Provides that the Department of Social Services shall consider residential placement of children when reunification with the family is not in the best interests of the child.
