SUMMARY AS PASSED HOUSE:

Department of Criminal Justice Services; regulation of locksmiths.  Provides an exemption from certification for any person employed by a licensed private security services business as a locksmith whose sole duty is key cutting, provided the key cutting is performed under the direct supervision of such licensee.

SUMMARY AS INTRODUCED:

Department of Criminal Justice Services; regulation of locksmiths.  Provides that (i) temporary certification issued by the Criminal Justice Services Board for locksmiths shall be valid for 180 days, and (ii) to the extent possible, certified training schools for locksmiths shall be located in each geographic region of the Commonwealth and the Board shall allow locksmiths to meet their mandatory training requirements through correspondence or other distance learning instruction. Also, the bill exempts from certification any person employed by a licensed private security services business as a locksmith whose sole duty is key cutting, provided the key cutting is performed under the direct supervision of such licensee.
