Celebrating the life of Jean Waltrip.

WHEREAS, Jean Waltrip, of James City County, an icon of Virginia aviation and ambassador of the Historic Triangle, died on October 28, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Jean Waltrip will be sorely missed by the Virginia aviation community; and

WHEREAS, Jean Waltrip, along with her husband Larry Waltrip, founded the Williamsburg–Jamestown Airport in 1970; and

WHEREAS, Jean Waltrip was inducted in 2001 into the Virginia Aviation Hall of Fame, despite never having learned to fly; and

WHEREAS, Jean Waltrip welcomed world renowned guests to her airport, including Queen Elizabeth II and former President Bill Clinton; and

WHEREAS, Jean Waltrip possessed an amazing energy level as she served the community of James City County; and

WHEREAS, Jean Waltrip received James City County’s Captain John Smith Award for outstanding business achievement; and

WHEREAS, Jean Waltrip brought great joy to her family and friends and will be sorely missed by her loving admirers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of a fine ambassador of Virginia aviation and an outstanding citizen of the Commonwealth, Jean Waltrip; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Jean Waltrip as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
