SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 488
Celebrating the life of Jane Rowe Reynolds Murray.

WHEREAS, Jane Rowe Reynolds Murray, aged 70, of St. Stephens Church, a respected citizen and beloved community supporter, died on November 16, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Jane Rowe Murray was born in Chatham, the daughter of Dr. R. O. Reynolds and Delma Owen Reynolds, graduated from Virginia Intermont College in 1955, Stratford University in 1958, and Randolph-Macon Woman’s College in 1966; and

WHEREAS, a dedicated educator, Jane Rowe Murray taught in the public school system in Spotsylvania County, Richmond, and finally Newport News, where she retired; and

WHEREAS, Jane Rowe Murray was knowledgeable about civic issues and active in the public affairs of her community, and she was always ready to help family members and her neighbors in need; and

WHEREAS, a strong and vibrant woman, Jane Rowe Murray loved horses, her dogs, gardening, and the arts, and she was devoted to her family and had a special loving relationship with her grandchildren, John B. Murray III, William H. Murray, John Harvie Martin IV, and Anne R. Martin; and

WHEREAS, Jane Rowe Murray will be fondly remembered for her kind and generous nature and greatly missed by her son, John B. Murray, Jr.; her daughter, Owen Jaeger, and husband, Walter Jaeger; her grandchildren; and her numerous friends and admirers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of an outstanding Virginian, Jane Rowe Reynolds Murray; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Jane Rowe Reynolds Murray as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
