SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 469
Celebrating the life of Frances Ellen Daly.

WHEREAS, Frances Ellen Daly of Danville, an admired community volunteer and philanthropist, died on July 19, 2008; and

WHEREAS, a native of Wisconsin, Frances Daly was born on September 7, 1930, to loving parents Katherine and Gilbert Krueger; and

WHEREAS, Frances Daly graduated from Spencerian College in Kentucky and met her husband, the late Philip N. Daly, Sr., while he was a student at Marquette University; the couple moved to Danville and made it their home for the next 45 years as they raised their seven children; and

WHEREAS, hard-working and entrepreneurial, Frances and her husband worked diligently and enjoyed great success with their two businesses, Danville Memorial Gardens and Innkeeper Hotels; and

WHEREAS, desirous to share the results of her good fortune with others, Frances generously gave to many philanthropic endeavors, but she felt a special need to help those in her beloved Danville, as evidenced by the creation of the Philip and Frances Daly Fund at the Community Foundation, the Philip and Frances Daly Teen Center at the Boys and Girls Club, and the Philip and Frances Daly scholarship fund at Sacred Heart School; and

WHEREAS, Frances Daly graciously donated her time and talents as a volunteer for Hospice Support Services and was a member of the Wednesday Club, Garden Club, Widow’s Club, Sertoma Club, Mellow Fellow’s Club, and Catholic Women’s Club; and

WHEREAS, Frances Daly lived her faith through her life and as a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she was active in the church’s many missions in the community; and

WHEREAS, Frances Daly will be remembered for her kind and loving spirit and missed by her children, P. Niles, Patrick, Jon, James, Robert, Shelayne, and Charisse and their families; and her numerous friends and admirers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of a dedicated community volunteer and outstanding Virginian, Frances Ellen Daly; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Frances Ellen Daly as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
