WHEREAS, Terri Hobson of Fairfax is commended for her selection as the Educator of the Year by the Virginia Thespians at the annual conference held at Christopher Newport University; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Thespians is a division of the International Thespian Society and the Educational Theatre Association that honors excellence in theater; and

WHEREAS, a gifted and innovative educator, Terri Hobson teaches drama at W.T. Woodson High School in Fairfax and served as the technical director of Cappies International Theater in 2008; and

WHEREAS, a graduate of W.T. Woodson , Terri Hobson brought a wealth of teaching and drama experience back to the students of W.T. Woodson High School; and

WHEREAS, Terri Hobson taught elementary special education while working as a professional stage manager and stagehand in the evening and also taught middle school drama at Robinson Secondary School before coming back to W.T. Woodson High School 11 years ago; and

WHEREAS, Terri Hobson has enthusiastically guided her students as they put on theatrical productions and develop their own theatrical talents; some of the recent productions put on by the theater students at W.T. Woodson High School include Footloose and Brave New World; and

WHEREAS, the theater arts play a vital role in helping students reach their potential not only in theater class but across different disciplines; theater students learn to think creatively, solve problems, express themselves, feel comfortable speaking in front of a group, and use technology and software; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend Terri Hobson on her selection as the Educator of the Year by the Virginia Thespians; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Terri Hobson as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her commitment to providing her students with an outstanding education.
