WHEREAS, Virginia Intermont College, located in Bristol, Virginia, is celebrating its 125th anniversary in 2009; and

WHEREAS, Virginia Intermont College was founded on September 17, 1884, and the establishment of the college represented one of the earliest efforts to improve the quality of education in Southwest Virginia; and

WHEREAS, since its founding, Virginia Intermont College has provided the highest quality education to thousands of men and women from around the world, increasing their career opportunities and adding value to their lives; and

WHEREAS, Virginia Intermont College continues to raise the bar of excellence of education by continuously  improving the standards of its academic programs; and

WHEREAS, Virginia Intermont College has helped provide an educated workforce for Southwest Virginia and the Commonwealth, as well as stimulated innovation and economic growth in the community; and

WHEREAS, Virginia Intermont College further enriches its community through educational programs, special events, and services; and

WHEREAS, the college’s many outstanding achievements are due to the dedication and hard work of the exemplary faculty, staff, and students of Virginia Intermont College; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Virginia Intermont College on the occasion of its 125th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Virginia Intermont College as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude to the college for its commitment to quality education and the citizens of Southwest Virginia and the Commonwealth.
