SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 403
Celebrating the life of Ashley McIntosh.

WHEREAS, Ashley McIntosh, aged 33, a respected citizen and an exemplary instructional assistant for the Fairfax County Public Schools, died in a tragic automobile accident on February 13, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Ashley McIntosh was born on February 4, 1975, in Alexandria, graduated as an honor student from West Potomac High School and Northern Virginia Community College, and attended George Mason University; and

WHEREAS, a talented athlete, Ashley McIntosh played basketball and softball for West Potomac High School, where she achieved All-District honors playing basketball and All-District and All-Regional honors playing softball; and

WHEREAS, Ashley McIntosh taught kindergarten at Clermont Elementary School in Fairfax County, where she was respected and loved by her students and their parents; and

WHEREAS, her many friends at Clermont Elementary School are grateful for the time Ashley McIntosh spent there and will remember the genuine love and commitment that she gave to her students; and

WHEREAS, Ashley McIntosh was the first female referee for the Fort Hunt Youth Athletic Association, where she volunteered for 18 years, and she was a role model and mentor to other high school referees at the association; and

WHEREAS, Ashley McIntosh was a coach for both the basketball and the softball teams and an umpire for softball games for the Fort Hunt Youth Athletic Association; and

WHEREAS, always willing to help her fellow citizens, Ashley McIntosh was a compassionate volunteer at the Mount Vernon Hospital; and

WHEREAS, Ashley McIntosh will be forever remembered with great fondness as a caring, energetic, and passionate young woman whose bright smile, engaging good humor, and positive work ethic endeared her to all who knew her; and

WHEREAS, Ashley McIntosh will be greatly missed by her parents, sister, niece, nephew, aunts, and cousins; her friends and all others who were blessed to have known her; and the numerous children whose lives she touched; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly note with great sadness the untimely loss of a fine Virginian, Ashley McIntosh; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Ashley McIntosh as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
