Celebrating the life of Felicia Bryan Farrar Johnson.

WHEREAS, Felicia Bryan Farrar Johnson of Newport News, a respected citizen and outstanding community supporter, died on December 28, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Felicia Farrar Johnson was born in Red Spring, North Carolina, the daughter of the late Reverend Felix F. Bryan and Mrs. Laney Bryan Ward; attended public schools in North Carolina and Virginia; and received an undergraduate degree and a master’s degree from Hampton University; and

WHEREAS, Felicia Farrar Johnson enjoyed working with people and helping others in any way she could, and she retired following 30 years of dedicated service from the Department of Sciences and Communicative Disorders at Hampton University; and

WHEREAS, a mentor and role model to all who knew her well, Felicia Farrar Johnson was a life member and a Silver Soror of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; held regional leadership positions in the sorority; and over the years, served as president of the Gamma Upsilon Chapter and a graduate advisor to the Gamma Theta Chapter; and

WHEREAS, Felicia Farrar Johnson was a faithful member of Carver Memorial Presbyterian Church, where she served as chairman of the deacon board, participated in the church’s many missions in the community, and was a former gifted member of its acclaimed Senior Choir; and

WHEREAS, a kind and generous woman of great faith, Felicia Farrar Johnson loved and constantly doted on her family, and she was affectionately known as Yum-Yum and Duchess-Grandma to her family members; and

WHEREAS, Felicia Farrar Johnson will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her loving children, Felix Eugene Farrar and the Reverend Cynthia Farrar; her three sisters and other family members, especially her grandchildren; and her numerous friends and admirers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of an outstanding Virginian, Felicia Bryan Farrar Johnson; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Felicia Bryan Farrar Johnson as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
