2009 SESSION
WHEREAS, in 2009 Louise Archer Elementary School will celebrate 70 years of educating students living in Vienna; and
WHEREAS, originally named the Vienna Colored School, Louise Archer Elementary School was renamed in 1950 in honor of its first educator, Louise Archer, who began teaching students at the First Baptist Church sanctuary; and
WHEREAS, integrated in September 1965, Louise Archer Elementary School now serves as a positive learning environment for over 700 students and stands as a tribute to the unyielding efforts of Louise Archer to provide students the opportunity for academic and social success; and
WHEREAS, throughout its rich educational history, the Louise Archer Parents and Teachers Association sponsors numerous before and after school programs, clubs, field trips, and organizations, as well as provides a supportive and educational atmosphere for students to thrive; and
WHEREAS, the students, faculty, and staff at Louise Archer Elementary School take pride in its history and the legacy of Louise Archer and work diligently to meet the diverse needs of the student population and empower all who walk through the school’s doors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Louise Archer Elementary School on its 70th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Principal Michelle Makrigiorgos as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation of the history and significance of Louise Archer Elementary School and its exceptional educational service to the community of Vienna.
