Commending Michael J. Polychrones.

WHEREAS, Michael J. Polychrones, a member of the Vienna Town Council and the 90th president of the Virginia Municipal League, is recognized for his longtime public service to the citizens of the Town of Vienna and the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, Michael Polychrones will serve as the 2008–2009 president of the Virginia Municipal League, which is a statewide, nonprofit, nonpartisan association of cities, towns, and county governments established in 1905 to improve and assist local governments through legislative advocacy, research, education, and other services; and

WHEREAS, a resident of Vienna since 1961, Michael Polychrones is the program manager for the American Bankers Insurance Association; and

WHEREAS, Michael Polychrones attended George Mason University from 1978 to 1982; graduated with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1987; and became a certified planning commissioner through Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1995; and

WHEREAS, Michael Polychrones worked on several local and statewide political campaigns, as well as served as the legislative aide to Delegate Dick Fisher at the General Assembly; and

WHEREAS, before becoming a Vienna councilman, Michael Polychrones was a member of the Transportation Safety Commission from 1993 to 1994, the Town Planning Commission from 1994 to 1996, and the Fairfax County Industrial Development Authority from 1995 to 2000; and

WHEREAS, Michael Polychrones was first appointed to the Vienna Town Council in 1996, then was elected by his fellow residents for the 1997–2003 term, and re-elected in 2004; and

WHEREAS, as councilman, Michael Polychrones has always put the interests of the citizens of Vienna first; has been known for his fiscal responsibility; and has been invaluable in his support of important public services, including essential infrastructure projects and the building of the Vienna Town Green, a 2.5-acre facility featuring an amphitheater, fountain, plaza, Wi-Fi, and open space; and

WHEREAS, over the years, Michael Polychrones has given his time and expertise to many community organizations, including the Vienna Lions Club; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend Michael J. Polychrones for his longtime public service to the citizens of the Town of Vienna and the Commonwealth; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Michael J. Polychrones as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for his many contributions and best wishes for success as president of the Virginia Municipal League.
