Commending Action in Community Through Service of Prince William, Inc., on the occasion of its 40th anniversary.

WHEREAS, on February 14, 2009, Action in Community Through Service of Prince William, Inc., (ACTS) will celebrate 40 years of service to the citizens of the greater Prince William County and the Cities of Manassas and Manassas Park; and

WHEREAS, the roots of the ACTS organization are within the faith community of the greater Prince William County and the Cities of Manassas and Manassas Park, springing from the original efforts of 13 congregations to work in concert to alleviate human suffering; and

WHEREAS, throughout its history, ACTS has developed an effective series of public-private partnerships with Prince William County government and the Cities of Manassas and Manassas Park to assist in the delivery of essential human services; and

WHEREAS, today ACTS serves more than 28,000 citizens annually with a wide range of programs, including prevention of homelessness and hunger, domestic violence intervention, subsidized developmental child care, crisis helpline services, suicide prevention and intervention, and the recycling of donated materials through thrift stores; and

WHEREAS, in fulfilling its mission, ACTS has proven to be an effective advocate to both government and the general public for individuals and families whose lives are in crisis; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Action in Community Through Service of Prince William, Inc., on the occasion of its 40th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Harold Deadman, President of Action in Community Through Service of Prince William, Inc., as an expression of the General Assembly’s recognition of the valuable contributions of this outstanding community organization and best wishes for continued success.
