2009 SESSION
WHEREAS, Henry Whitehead, Jr., a compassionate and good-willed resident of Hampton, died on August 11, 2008; and
WHEREAS, born in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Henry Whitehead, Jr., was the youngest of four children born to Henry and Lucy Odell Whitehead and was raised in Richmond; and
WHEREAS, while attending Hampton Institute, Henry Whitehead, Jr., met his loving and devoted wife, Barbara, and shortly thereafter joined the United States Army and served a tour of duty in Vietnam before being honorably discharged; and
WHEREAS, employed at The College of William and Mary as an electronic technician at the Jefferson Laboratory, Henry Whitehead, Jr., was a dedicated employee and was recognized by the Black History Month Committee of Jefferson Lab “for his dedication to science and the African-American community” in 1995; and
WHEREAS, Henry Whitehead, Jr., was active in the community and the church he attended, the First Baptist Church of Hampton, and enjoyed a variety of sports, music, art, and photography; and
WHEREAS, a loving family man and a great friend to all who knew him, Henry Whitehead, Jr., will be fondly remembered for his dedication to the community and greatly missed by his wife, Barbara; his three children, Ina, Norris, and Martin; his grandchildren; his two sisters and one brother; and many other family members and numerous friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of an outstanding Virginian, Henry Whitehead, Jr.; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Henry Whitehead, Jr., as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
