099229464WHEREAS, on April 21, 2009, Central Elementary School in Lexington celebrates its 50th anniversary of providing quality instruction to its students; and
WHEREAS, Central Elementary School opened as a consolidation of Lavesia, Borden’s Run, and West Lexington Elementary Schools and originally served grades one through seven; and
WHEREAS, Central Elementary School has undergone several changes over the years; in 1966 Central Elementary School added a four-room addition to accommodate the expansion of its education programs; and
WHEREAS, in 1984 Central Elementary School experienced a shift in its population when sixth and seventh grade students began attending Highland Belle Middle School; and
WHEREAS, Central Elementary School underwent major renovations in 2002 which doubled the square footage of the school and enhanced its facade; Central Elementary School now boasts a formal entrance with a bus loop, full-size gym, and more classroom space; and
WHEREAS, Central Elementary School has been ably served over the years by principals James Slusser, Charles Tolley, Roy Gray, Tom Dunlap, John Alexander, Alice Waddell, Harry Stone, and Ryan Barber who provided guidance, leadership, and vision to the school; and
WHEREAS, today, 85 dedicated full-time faculty and support staff work diligently to instruct and nurture pre-K through grade five students in 20 classrooms at Central Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, during the past half-century, Central Elementary School has remained focused and committed to its mission of providing the best possible education to the students of Lexington; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Central Elementary School be commended on the occasion of its 50th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Ryan Barber, Principal of Central Elementary School, as an expression of the House of Delegates’ appreciation and recognition of the school’s dedication and hard work on behalf of the students of Lexington.
