2009 SESSION
WHEREAS, on February 20, 2009, Kent Masonic Lodge No. 305, of the small community of Kentuck in Pittsylvania County, celebrated its historic 100th anniversary with a festive celebratory event; and
WHEREAS, Kent Masonic Lodge No. 305 was originally chartered in 1909 with $25 in its treasury and had its first meeting on the second floor of a country store; and
WHEREAS, Kent Masonic Lodge No. 305 was named after and in honor of Dr. S.T.A. Kent, a local doctor who exemplified the Masons’ commitment to service in the community; and
WHEREAS, by the end of its first year, Kent Masonic Lodge No. 305 had grown to 27 members; and
WHEREAS, in 1911 Kent Masonic Lodge No. 305 began a 68-year partnership with Kentuck Baptist Church, meeting upstairs in the Sunday School building of the church; and
WHEREAS, in 1980 Kent Masonic Lodge No. 305 met for the first time in its new facility on Malmaison Road, which was constructed mainly by the Masons; and
WHEREAS, for 100 years, the Kent Masonic Lodge No. 305 has supported numerous charitable organizations in the community and has helped the community grow and develop and looks forward to another 100 years of service; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Kent Masonic Lodge No. 305 be commended on the occasion of its 100th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Kent Masonic Lodge No. 305 as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for the Lodge’s commitment to the community and best wishes in its future endeavors.
