Commending Macon F. Brock.

WHEREAS, Macon F. Brock of Virginia Beach is commended for receiving the First Citizen of Virginia Beach Award from the Virginia Beach Jaycees; and

WHEREAS, the First Citizen of Virginia Beach Award is presented annually to an outstanding individual who exemplifies the spirit of citizenship and has shown significant leadership in making Virginia Beach a better place in which to live; and

WHEREAS, a graduate of Randolph-Macon College, Macon Brock proudly served in the United States Marine Corps in Vietnam and was a special agent with the United States Naval Intelligence at the Norfolk Naval Station before beginning a successful career in retail; and

WHEREAS, an innovative and visionary businessman, Macon Brock cofounded and served as president of K & K Toys, Inc., until 1991; and

WHEREAS, Macon Brock then cofounded and served until 2004 as chief executive officer of Dollar Tree Stores, a customer-oriented, value-driven variety store; he is currently chairman of the board of Dollar Tree Stores; and

WHEREAS, Macon Brock also serves as director of Landmark Communications, Ollie’s Discount Stores, and Lumber Liquidators; and

WHEREAS, Macon Brock has been actively involved in the community for many years, serving as current trustee of the Virginia Aquarium and the Chrysler Museum of Art, former trustee of the Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges and the Mariners’ Museum of Newport News, and advisory board member of the Virginia Chorale; and

WHEREAS, Macon Brock has given generously of his time and talents as chairman of the board of Randolph-Macon College, director of the Hampton Roads Community Foundation and Greater Norfolk Corporation, and cochairman of the Leadership Academy for Norfolk Public Schools; and

WHEREAS, Macon Brock has received many awards for his outstanding business and community leadership, including the Sales and Marketing Executive of the Year Award, National Multiple Sclerosis Hope Award, Lenora Mathews Lifetime Achievement Award, and Hope Award from the March of Dimes; and

WHEREAS, Macon Brock is a worthy recipient of the First Citizen of Virginia Beach Award as his participation in the community has provided not only great benefit to Virginia Beach but a model of service for others to emulate; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Macon F. Brock for receiving the First Citizen of Virginia Beach Award; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Macon F. Brock as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his commitment to the Virginia Beach community.
