2009 SESSION
099007532WHEREAS, Lieutenant Colonel, United States Air Force retired, Joseph Nathan Bell of Ashland, a respected citizen and former Hanover County Electoral Board member for more than 25 years, died on January 28, 2009; and
WHEREAS, a native of Prince Edward County, Joseph Bell grew up working on his family farm near the small community of Darlington Heights and later worked for DuPont in Richmond; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Bell, a skilled and brave pilot, proudly served his country as a B-24 “Liberator” combat pilot in Europe during World War II; and
WHEREAS, a devoted family man, Joseph Bell married the love of his life, the late Helen Bell, who was a captain in the United States Army Nurse Corps, and together they raised a wonderful son, Mark; and
WHEREAS, after a successful military career, Joseph Bell retired to Ashland, where he farmed and used his organizational and leadership skills gained in the military as a supervisor at American Filtrona Corp.; and
WHEREAS, a dedicated community volunteer, Joseph Bell gave generously of his time and talents to the Hanover County community as a member of the Hanover County Electoral Board for more than 25 years; and
WHEREAS, desiring to serve others and maintain his military ties, Joseph Bell was a member of the Clay Springs Ruritan Club and VFW Post 2583; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Bell will be fondly remembered for his kind and generous nature and will be greatly missed by his loving family and many friends and admirers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of a dedicated public servant and outstanding Virginian, Lieutenant Colonel, USAF Ret., Joseph Nathan Bell; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Lieutenant Colonel, USAF Ret., Joseph Nathan Bell as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
