2009 SESSION
099132672WHEREAS, Stuart I. Shotwell of Spotsylvania County, a dedicated community volunteer and veteran of World War II, died on February 14, 2009; and
WHEREAS, Stuart Shotwell graduated from Northport High School in 1943 before proudly joining the United States Marine Corps; and
WHEREAS, Stuart Shotwell was sent abroad and bravely served in the Pacific during World War II; he also served as part of the occupation forces in Japan; and
WHEREAS, after the war, Stuart Shotwell went on to receive a bachelor’s degree from Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York; and
WHEREAS, Stuart Shotwell worked for the farm equipment division of International Harvester Co. for 31 years, where he was a valued and dedicated employee; and
WHEREAS, after leaving International Harvester Co., Stuart Shotwell continued as a salesman for McMichael I.H. in Nokesville for another 10 years; and
WHEREAS, Stuart Shotwell generously gave of his time and talents as a former chief elections officer and member of many organizations in the community, including Goshen Baptist Church, American Legion Post No. 320, the National Rifle Association, and the Izaak Walton League; and
WHEREAS, Stuart Shotwell enjoyed spending time with his family and was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed trout fishing and grouse, goose, and deer hunting; and
WHEREAS, Stuart Shotwell will be fondly remembered for his kind and generous nature and will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 56 years, Jean; his children, Sue-Anne, Linda, Donna, James, and Sandra; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of a fine community volunteer and outstanding Virginian, Stuart I. Shotwell; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Stuart I. Shotwell as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
