099136540WHEREAS, Willie Steven Alston of Norfolk, a respected citizen and devoted family man, died on February 3, 2009; and
WHEREAS, Willie Alston was born to loving parents Eddie Sutton and Gertrude Clapp Sutton in Halifax, North Carolina; and
WHEREAS, Willie Alston moved at a young age with his family to the Norfolk area where he attended Norfolk Public Schools; and
WHEREAS, a spiritual man, Willie Alston was baptized at an early age and joined New Calvary Baptist Church, where he was a faithful member until ill health prevented him from attending; and
WHEREAS, while Willie Alston accomplished much in his life, his greatest pride and joy was his large and loving family with whom he enjoyed spending time; and
WHEREAS, Willie Alston married the love of his life, Doris, with whom he raised six sons, Ronald, Willie, Jerome, Michael, Steven, and the late Roscoe, and two daughters, the late Rosie Lee and the late Patricia; and
WHEREAS, Willie Alston will be fondly remembered for his kind and generous nature and leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of a dedicated family man and outstanding Virginian, Willie Steven Alston; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Willie Steven Alston as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
