WHEREAS, St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church was founded in 1909 as the original Roman Catholic Parish in Arlington County and has been, for the past 100 years, a source of spiritual enrichment and moral leadership, as well as a religious haven for immigrants from many nations and cultures; and

WHEREAS, St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church has earned an estimable reputation as a welcoming and caring community that makes a valuable contribution to Arlington’s quality of life by means of its elementary school, served by the Benedictine Sisters since 1922, and its many social ministries that benefit the underprivileged and the vulnerable of all faiths; and

WHEREAS, the compassion and generosity of the people of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church extend far beyond the boundaries of Arlington and Virginia, providing much needed resources to its sister parishes in Haiti and the Dominican Republic and assistance to communities in the Philippines and Africa; and

WHEREAS, St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church has been served throughout its 100-year history by immensely dedicated and able pastors, lay persons, and teachers who have provided visionary leadership, devout worship, and meaningful Christian education; and

WHEREAS, for 100 years, St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church has provided its devoted parishioners, its neighbors, and the community a place to worship, to help others, and to grow in faith and service; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church on the occasion of its historic centennial anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church as an expression of the General Assembly's best wishes for a joyful celebration and future success in its ministry.
