WHEREAS, Kenneth Wade Parr of Spring Grove, a devoted family man, educator, and school board member, died on January 15, 2009; and
WHEREAS, Kenneth Parr began his career in education as a seventh grade history teacher at L.L. Beazley Elementary School, where he also coached football; and
WHEREAS, recognized for his administrative and leadership skills, Kenneth Parr quickly rose through the ranks to become a principal in the Prince George County Public School system before retiring; and
WHEREAS, a caring and compassionate man with a no-nonsense approach, Kenneth Parr taught his students that they mattered and that there were adults who cared about them; and
WHEREAS, even after retirement, Kenneth Parr remained in the field of education; he gave generously of his time and talents as a member and chair of the Prince George County School Board; and
WHEREAS, after a long career in education, Kenneth Parr was uniquely qualified to serve on the school board; he worked to develop programs to benefit all students, including those who were troubled, and while he was on the board, teachers received a long overdue salary increase and the new elementary school and school board office were constructed; and
WHEREAS, Kenneth Parr was an active member of the Virginia School Board Association and served on the board of the Rowanty Vocational Technical Center School; and
WHEREAS, Kenneth Parr was actively involved in the community as a member of the Burrowsville Ruritan Club, Torsten Peterson Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF), Virginia State Chapter of the NWTF, Hopewell Moose Club, and Virginia Deer Hunters Association; he served as president of the Brandon-Burrowsville Hunt Club and past chairman of the “Sportsmen of Virginia”; and
WHEREAS, Kenneth Parr was a lifelong and faithful member of Woodlawn Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon and elder; and
WHEREAS, Kenneth Parr will be fondly remembered for his compassion and dedication to his family and by the students he worked with over a long and successful career in education, and he will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Ann; daughter Stephanie and son Ty and their families; and the Prince George County school community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of a fine educator and outstanding Virginian, Kenneth Wade Parr; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Kenneth Wade Parr as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
