099019688WHEREAS, John B. Patton, Jr., age 52, a respected citizen of Loudoun County and a member of the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Department and the Sterling Volunteer Fire Department, died on December 27, 2008; and
WHEREAS, committed to safeguarding his fellow citizens, John Patton began his public service career in 1975 when he was hired as Loudoun County’s first full-time paid firefighter for the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company; and
WHEREAS, in 1980 John Patton joined the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Department, working first at the Adult Detention Center and later as a handler with the canine unit and then as a member of the Field Operations Division; and
WHEREAS, John Patton was promoted to sergeant in 1987 and within two years was promoted again to second lieutenant; and
WHEREAS, an experienced and dedicated law-enforcement officer, John Patton served as chief deputy of the Loudoun County Sheriff’s office in 1996; and
WHEREAS, John Patton served Loudoun County for three decades with a unique blend of humor, intellect, commitment to equal justice for all, and an unwavering desire to make the Sterling community a better place to live for all its citizens; and
WHEREAS, throughout his life and career, John Patton gave generously of his time and expertise to many community organizations, his church community, and as a volunteer helping young people; and
WHEREAS, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, John Patton will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Barbara; his children, Michael, Daniel, John, and Samantha; his wonderful grandchildren and other family members; and many friends and admirers in Loudoun County; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the passing of an outstanding Virginian, John B. Patton, Jr.; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of John B. Patton, Jr., as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
