Commending Frank R. Campbell.

WHEREAS, Dr. Frank R. Campbell of Danville, a revered and beloved educator, minister, and community volunteer, is commended for his selection as the 2008 Citizen of the Year by the Danville Kiwanis Club; and

WHEREAS, the Citizen of the Year award recognizes an individual who demonstrates religious and family values; participates in cultural, educational, and civic growth; provides public service; holds leadership positions in the community; and has significant career or professional accomplishments; and

WHEREAS, a devoted family man, Frank Campbell has been married for 51 years to Janet, and together they have raised two wonderful daughters; and

WHEREAS, Frank Campbell received a bachelor’s degree from Carson-Newman College in Tennessee, a B.D., Th.M., and D.Min. from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, a doctor of divinity degree from Wake Forest University, and a doctorate from Kyungman University in Korea; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Frank Campbell served as the visionary president of Averett University for 17 years and as interim president of Gardner-Webb University from 2002 to 2005; he currently serves as the executive director of the Stratford House, a premier senior living retirement community in Danville; and

WHEREAS, a noted theologian and minister, Dr. Frank Campbell has ministered to several different congregations over the years and published several books and articles and Sunday School lessons on various topics related to the faith community; he currently attends First Baptist Church in Danville and is active in church life there; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Frank Campbell has given generously of his time and talents over the years to various organizations, currently serving as a member of the boards of First Citizens Bank, Roman Eagle Memorial Home, Inc., the North Theatre, and the Charles B. Keesee Educational Foundation and as chairman of the Danville Regional Medical Center board; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Frank Campbell served as the former president of the Danville Chamber of Commerce, former president and chairman of the United Way campaign, and former chairman of the Council of Independent Colleges in Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Frank Campbell has accomplished much and given much back to the communities of which he has been a part and counts as his greatest accomplishments his loving family and many friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Frank R. Campbell on his selection as the 2008 Citizen of the Year by the Danville Kiwanis Club; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Frank R. Campbell as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect and gratitude for his community service.
