2009 SESSION
WHEREAS, Maud Robinson, a respected 58-year Vienna resident and Vienna Town Council member, will step down from her position on June 30, 2009, having served her fellow citizens since 2000; and
WHEREAS, Maud Robinson was born in Stamford, Connecticut, earned a bachelor’s degree from Smith College, and for two years attended the University of Virginia School of Law; and
WHEREAS, during World War II, Maud Robinson served her country in the areas of intelligence and communications with the United States Navy WAVES, or Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service; and
WHEREAS, following the death of her husband, longtime Vienna Mayor Charles Robinson, Maud Robinson was appointed to fill the unexpired town council term of M. Jane Seeman, who was elected as the new mayor; and
WHEREAS, Maud Robinson was reelected in 2001 and has served four two-year terms on the council, supporting fiscal conservatism and many historic preservation measures; and
WHEREAS, as a member of the Vienna Architectural Review Board, Maud Robinson has worked to beautify the Town of Vienna by supporting the creation of a special commercial zone on Church Street and the placement of no-through-trucks signs in neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, Maud Robinson has served on the Town/Business Liaison Committee and the Church Street Vision Committee; and
WHEREAS, Maud Robinson has been a tireless supporter of the community and an active member of the board of Historic Vienna, Inc., the Vienna Rotary Club, the Ayr Hill Garden Club, and many other civic organizations that are vital partners of the community; and
WHEREAS, after completing her term, Maud Robinson looks forward to enjoying her leisure time and her many hobbies and interests, and she will continue to be active in the affairs and activities of her beloved community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Maud Robinson on her nine years of visionary leadership as a member of the Vienna Town Council; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Maud Robinson as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for her many achievements and best wishes for a happy and rewarding retirement.
