HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 922 Offered February 17, 2009 Commending Kathy Budner. ---------- Patron-- Ware, R.L. ----------

WHEREAS, it is in the initiative of local individuals that the economic fortunes of the Commonwealth arise; and

WHEREAS, the Chambers of Commerce of our communities are instrumental in the cultivation of those qualities of enterprise and civility that contribute to the common good; and

WHEREAS, Kathy Budner recently retired after 16 years as the first executive director of the Chamber of Commerce of Powhatan County; and

WHEREAS, Kathy Budner guided the Powhatan Chamber of Commerce through numerous developments, including an increase in member firms from 42 in 1992 to 230 in 2008; and

WHEREAS, Kathy Budner has led the Chamber to several achievements that have been instrumental in enhancing the economic well-being of Powhatan County and its people; and

WHEREAS, Kathy Budner, in her leadership of the Chamber, contributed significantly to numerous commercial and civic endeavors in her adoptive community; and

WHEREAS, Kathy Budner has now entered upon a well-deserved retirement; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of her achievements the Chamber of Commerce of Powhatan County has presented Kathy Budner with its "Award of Excellence"; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly voice its congratulations to Kathy Budner of Powhatan, Virginia; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Kathy Budner in appreciation of her 16 years of outstanding leadership of the Powhatan Chamber of Commerce and also in appreciation of her contributions to her community and the Commonwealth.
