2009 SESSION
096892664WHEREAS, Barbara Dovel Daniel, a respected citizen and beloved staff member of the Henrico County Public Schools for 27 years, died on January 10, 2009; and
WHEREAS, Barbara “Bea” Dovel Daniel was born in Luray on February 14, 1950, and graduated in 1968 from Hermitage High School in Henrico County, where she was voted “Best All Around”; and
WHEREAS, a great mentor and supporter of young people, Bea Daniel served as the secretary to the principal of Henrico High School from 1981 to 1986; she served as a member of the front office staff from 1986 to 1989 and secretary to the principal from 1989 to 2009 at Douglas Southall Freeman High School; and
WHEREAS, as the secretary to the principal, Bea Daniel contributed significantly to the excellence of the schools she served, working diligently with administrators and teachers to enhance academic programs and the educational environment and to ensure the safety and security of the students; and
WHEREAS, always a reassuring and friendly face to students, Bea Daniel would go to the main hall when the bell rang between classes, where she and Coach Bright would comment on the young people’s latest trends, and she was a great supporter of the school athletic program and an enthusiastic spectator at football, basketball, and baseball games; and
WHEREAS, Bea Daniel loved life and had many interests, which included golfing, and she seized every opportunity to share a round of golf with her friends; and
WHEREAS, Bea Daniel will be fondly remembered for her kind and generous nature and will be greatly missed by her son, Jonathan Daniel; her mother, Claire Dovel; her sister, Diana Winston; and many other family members and good friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of an outstanding Virginian, Barbara Dovel Daniel; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Barbara Dovel Daniel as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
