HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 904
Celebrating the life of Johnny Earl Morphew, Jr.

WHEREAS, Johnny Earl Morphew, Jr., a longtime Chilhowie Fire Department and Bristol Virginia Fire Department firefighter and emergency medical technician (EMT) paramedic died in a tragic auto accident on January 28, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Earl Morphew served 17 years as a volunteer firefighter for the Chilhowie Fire Department, 16 years as a paid firefighter for the Bristol Fire Department, and worked part-time as a member of the Bristol Life Saving Crew; and

WHEREAS, a highly trained and experienced professional, Earl Morphew continued to hone his emergency medical services (EMS) skills throughout his career, and he was an outstanding certified critical care flight paramedic, one of only 1,000 paramedics holding the advanced credential worldwide; and

WHEREAS, a certified EMT paramedic, Earl Morphew held many certifications in the EMS field, including cardiac life support, neonatal advanced life support, pediatric advanced life support, pre-hospital trauma life support, and basic and advanced trauma life support; and

WHEREAS, always willing to share his knowledge and expertise with others, Earl Morphew enthusiastically trained hundreds of new EMS personnel as an instructor for the Virginia Office of EMS and the Virginia Department of Fire Programs; and

WHEREAS, a man of deep convictions and strength of character, Earl Morphew was dedicated to his profession and his fellow firefighters and EMS professionals, and he worked hard every day to ensure the safety of his fellow citizens; and

WHEREAS, Earl Morphew will be fondly remembered for his devotion to his family and will be greatly missed by his wife Terri, his daughter Mallory, and his many good friends and colleagues; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly note with great sadness the passing of a fine public servant and outstanding Virginian, Johnny Earl Morphew, Jr.; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Johnny Earl Morphew, Jr., as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
