2009 SESSION
WHEREAS, Edgar Kermit Wharton of the Town of Accomac, an outstanding community volunteer and dedicated mortician, died on June 16, 2008; and
WHEREAS, a native of Accomac, Edgar Wharton was born on June 18, 1919, and graduated from Virginia State University; and
WHEREAS, a caring and humble man, Edgar Wharton served as a longtime mortician to the Accomac community and was actively involved in the Virginia Morticians Association; and
WHEREAS, Edgar Wharton was recognized by his peers for his dedication to his profession with the Norfolk Funeral Directors and Embalmers Association Leadership, Loyalty and Friendship Award; he also received the Who’s Who in Executive Professionals recognition in 1993 - 1994; and
WHEREAS, Edgar Wharton generously gave of his time and talents to various organizations in the community, including the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Accomac/Georgetown F & AM Masonic Lodge No. 62, and the NAACP; and
WHEREAS, recognized for his administrative and leadership ability, Edgar Wharton served as a member of the board of Shore Memorial Hospital and the Accomack County Electoral Board; and
WHEREAS, a man of many talents, Edgar Wharton especially enjoyed spending time with the racehorses he owned; he also enjoyed cooking for family and friends; and
WHEREAS, with a life philosophy of “love, care, share,” Edgar Wharton loved spending time with friends and family and helping various individuals and causes in the community; and
WHEREAS, Edgar Wharton spent a lifetime caring for others and the work he has done speaks for him; and
WHEREAS, Edgar Wharton will be fondly remembered for his kind and generous nature and will be greatly missed by his large and loving family and his numerous friends and admirers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of a fine community volunteer and outstanding Virginian, Edgar Kermit Wharton; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Edgar Kermit Wharton as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
