WHEREAS, Rick Cole of Powhatan, a longtime principal and dedicated educator, is recognized for his outstanding service to his community and the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, a Powhatan County native son, Rick Cole graduated from Powhatan High School, and after completing college, he devoted himself to the education of young people, first as a physical education teacher, coach, and assistant principal at Goochland High School and then returning to his alma mater to serve as principal; and

WHEREAS, committed to a quality education for all Virginia children, Rick Cole served as the exemplary and compassionate principal of Powhatan High School for 19 years; and

WHEREAS, during his tenure as principal, Rick Cole contributed greatly to improving and expanding academic programs in Powhatan County and increasing student achievement and learning opportunities; and

WHEREAS, Rick Cole and his wonderful wife, Pam, are the proud parents of two daughters, both graduates of Powhatan High School; and

WHEREAS, after a long and distinguished career, Rick Cole recently retired from the Powhatan County Public Schools; he is enjoying a well-deserved retirement and remains very active in his church and in the civic affairs and events of his beloved Powhatan County; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Rick Cole on his many achievements and his more than three decades of outstanding service as an educator in the public schools; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Rick Cole as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for his commitment to quality education in the Commonwealth and best wishes for a happy and rewarding retirement.
