Commending Macedonia Baptist Church on the occasion of its 100th anniversary.

WHEREAS, Macedonia Baptist Church of Arlington, one of the oldest African-American churches in the Commonwealth, is celebrating its historic 100th anniversary in 2009; and

WHEREAS, Macedonia Baptist Church partners with the Arlington Interfaith Council (AIC) to discuss issues important to the Arlington County community and to develop and support programs that alleviate suffering and promote justice for residents; and

WHEREAS, the dedicated members of Macedonia Baptist Church worked with the Affordable Housing Committee and the Arlington Housing Corporation to build a 36-unit apartment complex to provide affordable housing to area residents; and

WHEREAS, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Macedonia Baptist Church, the congregation has begun a project to develop 41 apartment-style living quarters to further provide affordable housing to people in need in the Arlington community; and

WHEREAS, throughout its long history, Macedonia Baptist Church has provided its devoted congregation, its neighbors, and the community a place to worship, to help others, and to grow in faith and service; and

WHEREAS, Macedonia Baptist Church is celebrating 100 years of outstanding achievements and service to its church family and the Arlington community with exciting new ministries and outreach programs for the future; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Macedonia Baptist Church of Arlington on the occasion of its 100th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Macedonia Baptist Church as an expression of the General Assembly's best wishes for a joyful celebration and future success in its ministry.
