HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 836
Commending Bishop George B. Quick.

WHEREAS, Bishop George B. Quick of Stafford, a respected citizen and beloved pastor, is commended for his commitment to his community; and

WHEREAS, an industrious and hard-working student, George Quick received a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and public administration from Shaw University, a master’s of divinity from Eastern Theological Center, a doctor of divinity from Redeem Bible College, and a doctor of ministry from Eastern Theological Seminary; he studied education administration at North Central University and attended divinity school at the Virginia Union University School of Theology; and

WHEREAS, committed and loyal, George Quick proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1969 to 1978, where he worked diligently to defend our country; and

WHEREAS, George Quick had a successful 28-year career with the federal government, where he served as an investigator for the United States Department of Labor and the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission; and

WHEREAS, recognized for his leadership, George Quick rose through the ranks of federal service to become a manager and then director in several agencies, retiring as Director of Civil Rights for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in 2007; and

WHEREAS, throughout his life, George Quick has felt the call to serve others; he established Shiloh Christian Church in 1990 in his own home; he also serves as chairman of the board of Shiloh Theological Seminary, president of Shiloh Community Services Corporation, and presiding bishop of Shiloh Ministries International; and

WHEREAS, led by a compassionate and caring leader, Shiloh Christian Church has grown over the years with Bible classes of 150 people; the establishment of a seminary with 40 students led by seven professors; a Christian school that serves students in grades K-12; a day care center; and a free counseling center for troubled youth, adults, and married couples; and

WHEREAS, George Quick’s vision of a Bible-based church committed to community service has helped the members of the church and also the larger community of Stafford; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Bishop George B. Quick, a respected citizen and an outstanding Virginian, for his service to the community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Bishop George B. Quick as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his commitment to service.
