Commending Nancy Parr.

WHEREAS, Nancy Parr is recognized for her longtime and outstanding service to her fellow citizens and her community of Chesapeake; and

WHEREAS, Nancy Parr has devoted her professional life in service to others as a career prosecuting attorney and is the first woman to be elected to the position of Commonwealth’s Attorney in Chesapeake; and

WHEREAS, Nancy Parr has initiated programs to establish working partnerships with civic leagues and community groups throughout the City of Chesapeake, and these partnerships have enhanced the relationship between neighborhoods and all branches of the law-enforcement agencies that serve the citizens; and

WHEREAS, Nancy Parr developed and implemented a successful pilot program to open a Community Prosecutor Office in South Norfolk; she recognized that devoting staff attorneys to serve areas of the city experiencing higher crime rates would increase the opportunity to make citizens comfortable with communicating their problems and being a part of resolving long-standing crime issues; and

WHEREAS, Nancy Parr reinstituted the important program to prosecute cases of domestic violence; and

WHEREAS, Nancy Parr has worked with the Chesapeake Public Schools to institute awareness programs that guide students toward making good decisions; and

WHEREAS, Nancy Parr actively participates in local service organizations that work to improve the health and welfare of all Chesapeake citizens, including the Luncheon Pilot Club of Chesapeake’s "Use Your Brain Day" trail ride to promote bicycle safety and helmet use and the CHIP/Healthy Family annual Duck Race to raise funds to sustain education efforts for young families; and

WHEREAS, Nancy Parr has been recognized by the Women’s Division of the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce—Chesapeake Division for professional excellence and for her sustained community involvement to make Chesapeake a better place to live and work; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Nancy Parr for her longtime service to her fellow citizens and her community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Nancy Parr as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation for her many achievements.
