2009 SESSION
096828712WHEREAS, the Old Dominion Association of Church Schools, an organization of church school ministries throughout the Commonwealth, has served church schools in Virginia since 1976; and
WHEREAS, the Old Dominion Association of Church Schools (ODACS) currently enrolls 4,200 students in 42 schools, which results in savings of $37,443,000 a year to Virginia taxpayers; and
WHEREAS, dedicated and hardworking, the ODACS students score higher than the national average on the Stanford Achievement Test in all grades; and
WHEREAS, the ODACS students have won six consecutive national titles (2003 - 2008) at the annual Bible, Fine Arts, and Academic Competition of the American Association of Christian Schools, which has more than 30 state associations competing; ODACS students have won the national championship in 11 of the past 16 years; and
WHEREAS, the Old Dominion Association of Church Schools provides events and services for students including the annual Bible, Fine Arts, and Academic Competition; Student Leadership Conferences; Youth Legislative Training Conferences; the annual State Government Day in Richmond; athletic tournaments; and Bible-quizzing tournaments; and
WHEREAS, the Old Dominion Association of Church Schools and the American Association of Christian Schools (AACS) also provide services for teachers, including certification through AACS, the annual ODACS Educators Convention, and onsite professional growth seminars; and
WHEREAS, the Old Dominion Association of Church Schools has diligently represented its schools before the state government throughout its history and represents AACS on the Virginia Child Day-Care Council; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend the Old Dominion Association of Church Schools for its services to church schools in Virginia; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Old Dominion Association of Church Schools as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for its commitment to Virginia church schools and educational excellence.
