HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 699 Offered January 14, 2009 Prefiled January 13, 2009 Commending G. Slaughter Fitz-Hugh, Jr. ---------- Patron-- Hamilton and Oder ----------

WHEREAS, G. Slaughter Fitz-Hugh, Jr., a founder of LEAD VIRGINIA, is recognized for his outstanding service as the organization's board chairman from 2004 to 2008; and

WHEREAS, under Slaughter "Sandy" Fitz-Hugh's leadership, LEAD VIRGINIA brings together private, public, and nonprofit leaders in the Commonwealth and informs them regarding Virginia's statewide and regional issues, as well as the state's many governmental challenges; and

WHEREAS, LEAD VIRGINIA provides leaders with a wealth of information on issues vital to Virginia through participation in seven intense educational sessions held across the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, LEAD VIRGINIA gives leaders an exciting and unique opportunity to collaborate and develop solutions to Virginia's needs, while maintaining respect and recognition of regional differences; and

WHEREAS, inspired by Sandy Fitz-Hugh's example, LEAD VIRGINIA graduates build social capital through a statewide network of engaged and informed leaders in diverse fields, enabling them to better serve their communities and Virginia in numerous capacities; and

WHEREAS, an innovative and hard-working founder and chairman, Sandy Fitz-Hugh has helped establish a bright future and legacy for LEAD VIRGINIA through the organization's excellent leadership programs and the exceptional achievements of its alumni; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend G. Slaughter Fitz-Hugh, Jr., for his leadership and valuable service as board chairman of LEAD VIRGINIA; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to G. Slaughter Fitz-Hugh, Jr., as an expression of the General Assembly's appreciation of his many accomplishments and gratitude for his dedication to the well-being of the Commonwealth and his fellow Virginians.
