HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 673
Commending the Tidewater Winds on the occasion of its 25th anniversary.

WHEREAS, the Tidewater Winds, Virginia's premier professional concert band, is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2009; and

WHEREAS, the Tidewater Winds was founded in 1984 under the direction of legendary conductor Sidney Berg, providing the communities of Hampton Roads the opportunity to enjoy professional band concerts in the Sousa Band tradition; and

WHEREAS, through the generosity of individuals and organizations throughout the Commonwealth and the Tidewater region, the Tidewater Winds performs entertaining programs in a free summer concert series throughout Hampton Roads under the direction of Maestro John Brewington; and

WHEREAS, the Tidewater Winds is comprised of accomplished musicians from across the Hampton Roads area representing various military, professional, and college bands and orchestras, as well as selected high school students who are members of the All-Virginia Band and Orchestra or their school District Bands; and

WHEREAS, the Tidewater Winds and its talented members build bridges within the community between the private, public and nonprofit sectors, as well as help provide scholarship funds to deserving young musicians; and

WHEREAS, the Tidewater Winds has enriched the arts scene of Hampton Roads and delighted audiences for a quarter century with its stirring performances of patriotic music and beautiful light classical music; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Tidewater Winds on the occasion of its 25th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Conductor and Musical Director John H. Brewington and the Tidewater Winds as an expression of the General Assembly's best wishes for a joyful anniversary celebration and success in all future endeavors.
