2009 SESSION
097336472WHEREAS, the University of Virginia (UVA) and Central Virginia Community College (CVCC), in cooperation with area businesses, have formed a partnership to expand the engineering program at the two-year college in Lynchburg; and
WHEREAS, the agreement will provide students earning an associate degree in engineering at CVCC an opportunity to obtain a bachelor’s degree from UVA’s School of Engineering and Applied Science through educational programs offered at CVCC; and
WHEREAS, both parties have expressed interest in using the PRODUCED in Virginia program as a model for expanding to all of the community colleges in Southside and Southwest Virginia; and
WHEREAS, the Joint Subcommittee to Study Science, Math, and Technology Education in the Commonwealth at the Elementary, Secondary, and Undergraduate Levels (House Joint Resolution No. 90, 2008) heard extensive testimony regarding the PRODUCED in Virginia program; and
WHEREAS, the joint subcommittee made recommendations at the final meeting of the 2008 interim to support the continued development and expansion of the PRODUCED in Virginia program; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the University of Virginia School of Engineering and Applied Science and Central Virginia Community College for establishing the PRODUCED in Virginia program; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Dr. James H. Aylor, Dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Virginia and Dr. Darrel W. Staat, President of Central Virginia Community College.
