096556592WHEREAS, Lemuel Edward Irvin of Waynesboro, a former city councilman and vice mayor, died on July 23, 2008; and
WHEREAS, Lemuel Irvin was born to Ruth Jones Irvin and Edward Waller on January 22, 1931; and
WHEREAS, Lemuel Irvin graduated from Waynesboro High School and then proudly served his country in the United States Air Force; and
WHEREAS, Lemuel Irvin married his beloved wife, Doris, and the couple had two wonderful children; and
WHEREAS, a valued and dedicated employee of Basic Witz/Stanley Furniture Company, Lemuel Irvin retired as a personnel manager after 40 years of service with the company; and
WHEREAS, a committed public servant, Lemuel Irvin was a Waynesboro City Council member for 16 years, including several years as vice mayor; and
WHEREAS, actively involved in the Methodist community, Lemuel Irvin was a longtime member of Basic United Methodist Church, a lay witness mission coordinator for 35 years, and a lay speaker for the Staunton District of the Methodist Church; and
WHEREAS, Lemuel Irvin will be fondly remembered for his kind and generous nature and will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Doris; their son Lemuel and daughter Cathy and their families; and his numerous friends and admirers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of an outstanding Virginian, Lemuel Edward Irvin; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Lemuel Edward Irvin as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
