Celebrating the life of Esten O. Rudolph, Jr.

WHEREAS, Esten O. Rudolph, Jr., of Frederick County, a dedicated public servant and Commissioner of the Revenue for 25 years, died on October 14, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Esten Rudolph was born to Esten O. Rudolph, Sr., and June Louise Ambrose Rudolph in the Frederick County community of Clear Brook; and

WHEREAS, Esten Rudolph proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy during World War II before returning to Frederick County to work on his beloved farm; and

WHEREAS, Esten Rudolph married his one and only love, Jane Y. Rudolph, and the couple had three wonderful sons and were married for 60 years; and

WHEREAS, committed to the continued growth and prosperity of his community and the quality of life of his neighbors, Esten Rudolph served Frederick County as Commissioner of the Revenue from 1968 until 1993; and

WHEREAS, Esten Rudolph served on Frederick County’s Finance Committee and Joint Facilities Committee, where his leadership, experience, and pleasant manner helped facilitate the important work of the committees in meeting Frederick County’s needs; and

WHEREAS, mindful of the needs of all of Frederick County’s citizens, Esten Rudolph played a key role in the implementation of the Tax Relief for the Elderly program in Frederick County; he was also instrumental in the Land Use Taxation program implementation; and

WHEREAS, Esten Rudolph lived his faith through his actions and membership to the Church of the Good Shepherd and was active in the church’s many missions in the community; and

WHEREAS, Esten Rudolph served the community through several charitable and civic organizations, including the local Ruritan Club, well into his retirement years; and

WHEREAS, Esten Rudolph will be fondly remembered for his kind and generous nature and will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Jane; their sons, Esten, Joseph and David and their families; and his numerous friends and admirers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of a dedicated public servant and outstanding Virginian, Esten O. Rudolph, Jr.; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Esten O. Rudolph, Jr., as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
