2009 SESSION
WHEREAS, Jno. S. Solenberger & Co. Inc. True Value Hardware of Winchester celebrated 120 years of service to the community in 2008; and
WHEREAS, entrepreneurs John S. Solenberger and his cousin, Daniel Stouffer, founded the hardware store as Solenberger & Stouffer in 1888; and
WHEREAS, committed to keeping the company in the family, John Solenberger left the business to his three sons, Hugh, Herbert and Howard Solenberger, who showed the same commitment to quality and customer service as their father; and
WHEREAS, Hugh Solenberger then passed the company to the third generation of Solenbergers with John T. Solenberger becoming president in 1976; and
WHEREAS, John T. Solenberger’s children, John Jr., Cyndi, Stacy, and Jeff all worked under their father, becoming the fourth generation of Solenbergers to be involved in the business; and
WHEREAS, the company has seen many changes over the past 120 years, including the introduction of a computerized inventory system, its affiliation with True Value Hardware, and expansion of the industrial division and the opening of Grand Rental Station, a rental company; and
WHEREAS, always dedicated to excellent customer service, longtime employees who have worked for decades in the store pride themselves on being able to find whatever a customer may need; and
WHEREAS, to meet its customers’ needs, the family-owned business has grown into a 48,000-square-foot building; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly congratulate Jno. S. Solenberger & Co. Inc. True Value Hardware on the occasion of its 120th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to John Solenberger, Jr., President of Jno. S. Solenberger & Co. Inc. True Value Hardware, as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for his family’s commitment to quality service and 120 years of business.
