WHEREAS, the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America is commended for its excellent stewardship of the National Scout Jamboree, one of the most unique and exciting experiences of Scouting; and
WHEREAS, since 1981, the Boy Scouts of America has held its National Scout Jamboree in Caroline County at Fort A. P. Hill, and every four years, the Scouts use 3,000 acres of beautiful rolling hills on the facility to support a city of more than 43,000 enthusiastic young men and their leaders; and
WHEREAS, when Scouts from all over the nation and the world gather at the 2010 National Scout Jamboree at Fort A. P. Hill next year, it will be a very special and historic celebration marking the greatest Scouting event of the century, the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America; and
WHEREAS, on February 11, 2009, the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America announced plans to establish a permanent home for the National Scout Jamboree in Virginia in Rockbridge County at Goshen beginning in 2013; and
WHEREAS, serving as the home for the Boy Scouts’ National Scout Jamboree is a great honor and a pleasure for the Commonwealth of Virginia and its citizens; and
WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia is committed to the time-honored celebration of the National Scout Jamboree and the values and goals of the Boy Scouts of America; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America for its excellent stewardship of the National Scout Jamboree; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude to Scouting for choosing Virginia as the site of the permanent home for the National Scout Jamboree.
