HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 1021
Commending Upward Basketball.

WHEREAS, since 2005, Jim Ayers and David Peterson have worked diligently and with considerable passion and commitment to offer young boys and girls of Centreville United Methodist Church, Christian and faith-based organizations, and other youth from Fairfax County an opportunity to compete in Upward Basketball; and

WHEREAS, Upward Basketball is a fun, reliable, and faith-based sports program for boys and girls in kindergarten through sixth grade that provides first class, organized sports programming in basketball, soccer, flag football, and cheerleading; and

WHEREAS, Upward Basketball at Centreville United Methodist Church is currently serving over 425 children; and

WHEREAS, since Upward Basketball’s inception in Centreville, over 1,800 children have been served by this excellent program that seeks to positively influence the youth of the community; and 

WHEREAS, Upward Basketball teaches physical fitness, good sportsmanship, and camaraderie to help build personal confidence; and

WHEREAS, without the commitment and enthusiasm of Jim Ayers and David Peterson the accomplishments and successes of the Upward Basketball program at Centreville United Methodist Church would not be possible; and  

WHEREAS, the positive influence of Upward Basketball at Centreville United Methodist Church, supported by Jim Ayers and David Peterson, will continue to enrich the lives of youth in Fairfax County; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Jim Ayers and David Peterson for their many efforts to make Upward Basketball at Centreville United Methodist Church a successful youth program; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare copies of this resolution for presentation to Jim Ayers, David Peterson, and Centreville United Methodist Church as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation for their commitment to the young people of Fairfax County.
