HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 1010 Offered February 23, 2009 Commending DuPont Community Credit Union on the occasion of its 50th anniversary. ----------

WHEREAS, in 2009 DuPont Community Credit Union, a member-owned financial cooperative serving the counties of Augusta, Rockingham, Rockbridge, Highland, Bath, and Shenandoah and the cities of Waynesboro, Staunton, Harrisonburg, Lexington, and Buena Vista, is celebrating its 50th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, DuPont Community Credit Union was organized as Waynesboro DuPont Employees Credit Union, Inc., in 1959 to help employees at the Waynesboro DuPont plant save money by loaning to members at rates below those charged elsewhere and to encourage thrift; and

WHEREAS, twenty years after its founding, the DuPont Community Credit Union was owned by over 7,000 members with nearly $32 million in assets; and

WHEREAS, in 2000 Waynesboro DuPont Employees Credit Union became DuPont Community Credit Union to reflect the credit union’s expansion to a community credit union that based membership eligibility on where people lived or worked; and

WHEREAS, at the start of 2009, the DuPont Community Credit Union served over 55,000 members and the all-volunteer board of directors governed a nine-branch network with over $518 million in loans, $654 million in assets, and 224 employees; and

WHEREAS, DuPont Community Credit Union, through a commitment to excellence by its dedicated staff, members, and the community, has become a premier provider of financial services; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate DuPont Community Credit Union on the occasion of its 50th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Everett J. Campbell, Board Chairman, as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude to DuPont Community Credit Union for its commitment to members and the communities of the Commonwealth and best wishes for continued success in the future.
