HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 1006
Commending the Reston Triathlon.

WHEREAS, the Reston Triathlon was honored by the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce and Reston Interfaith, Inc., with a prestigious 2009 Best of Reston award; and

WHEREAS, the Best of Reston awards were established to recognize individuals, businesses, and organizations that have demonstrated a strong commitment to serving the Reston community and improving the lives of others; and

WHEREAS, in 2008 the Reston Triathlon celebrated its 25th consecutive year of providing the premier annual amateur sporting event in Reston for the people of Reston; and

WHEREAS, the Reston Triathlon, formed by the Reston Masters Swim Team, the Reston Bicycle Club, and the Reston Runners, is the largest athletic event in Reston, with 400 to 650 participants and 500 to 700 volunteers; and

WHEREAS, the Reston Triathlon takes place in Lake Audubon and on the tree-lined streets and pathways of Reston and provides an excellent opportunity for the residents of Reston to observe and participate in a competitive triathlon; and

WHEREAS, the Reston Triathlon could not take place without the dedication and hard work of its organizers and volunteers who put in countless hours to ensure the race runs smoothly and safely; and

WHEREAS, volunteers for the race include local Boy Scout troops, the track team at South Lakes High School, and doctors and nurses; and

WHEREAS, the Reston Triathlon is generously supported by businesses in the community, such as Mooring Financial, Kendall and Company, Boofie O’Gorman (Long & Foster), Harvest Bread, Ferguson Enterprises, Papa John’s Pizza, and many others; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Reston Triathlon on its outstanding service to the residents of Northern Virginia and on its well-deserved honor as a 2009 Best of Reston award recipient; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Reston Triathlon as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for its efforts on behalf of the community of Reston.
